Seamless Hair extensions are made from three main sources:

natural human hair, artificial or synthetic hair, and animal hair.  The Seamless Hair extensions can be applied as purely natural, purely synthetic, or a combination of any of these.  Seamless Hair Extensions made from natural human hair, also known as ‘remy hair’, are generally considered the best choice, as human hair can withstand the high temperatures produced by curling irons, straighteners, and blow dryers.

Natural 100% human seamless hair extensions also tend to blend into one’s own hair somewhat better than synthetics, which can sometimes have an unnatural, shiny luster.

Natural human hair is made available in different grades indicating its quality and is also advertised based on ethnic origin.  In addition, natural seamless hair extensions can be stripped of its color and dyed to any shade desired.  One must consider, however, that despite the benefits of natural human hair extensions, it can be much more expensive than synthetic or blended hair extensions.  Synthetic hair is generally much less expensive and is available under a large number of brand names.  It is produced in a vast array of colors and textures ranging from natural to quite out of the ordinary.  Like natural hair, the textures of artificial hair are generally packaged under names that indicate ethnic patterns, such as European (straight, with possibly some wave), Jheri Curl (used to create the “Afro” look), Wet and Wavy (also known as Spanish Wave or Indian Wave, often combined with natural hair, soft curls that become very tightly curled when wet), and Silky Straight (straight, smooth, East Asian type hair).  Synthetic hair is colored according to a standardized number scale created by each manufacturer, with the lowest number indicating the darkest color (one=black, etc.)  It is important to note that the color/number scale can vary a great deal between manufacturers.

Once the type, texture, and color of seamless hair extensions has been considered, the most important factor that remains is the method of integration, which is how the hair extension is attached to one’s own hair.   The four main integration methods are bonding (using a “glue” such as hot or cold keratin), fixing by weaving (making a ‘curtain’ of hair), attachment with clips, and fixing by braiding.
